Η Βυζαντινολογική Εταιρεία Κύπρου διοργανώνει δημόσια διάλεξη, η οποία θα γίνει την Τετάρτη, 8 Ιουνίου 2016, ώρα 19:00, στην Ερευνητική Μονάδα Αρχαιολογίας.
Εισηγητής είναι ο Δρ. Mat Immerzeel, του Πανεπιστημίου Leiden, ο οποίος θα μιλήσει με θέμα: Christian Art in the Medieval Middle East. A Challenge to the Interpretation of Cypriot Art.

Ο Mat Immerzeel είναι ιστορικός της τέχνης και αρχαιολόγος στο Πανεπιστήμιο Leiden της Ολλανδίας. Ειδικεύεται στη μελέτη του υλικού πολιτισμού των χριστιανικών κοινοτήτων της Μέσης Ανατολής και ιδιαίτερα της τέχνης της Αιγύπτου, του Λιβάνου, του Ιράκ και της Συρίας από τη μεσαιωνική μέχρι την οθωμανική περίοδο. Έχει ασχοληθεί επίσης με την καταγραφή και τη συντήρηση εικόνων και τοιχογραφιών, ενώ αυτή την περίοδο συμμετέχει στο ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου για τη μελέτη των τοιχογραφιών του ναού της Μεταμορφώσεως στη Σωτήρα Αμμοχώστου, με χρηματοδότηση του Iδρύματος Αναστάσιος Γ. Λεβέντης. Ο Mat Immerzeel διευθύνει το Paul van Moorsel Centre for Christian Art and Culture in the Middle East (VU University Amsterdam) και είναι ο εκδότης του επιστημονικού περιοδικού Eastern Christian Art.
The Byzantinist Society of Cyprus organizes a public lecture, which will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 19:00, at the Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus in Nicosia.
The speaker is Dr. Mat Immerzeel, University of Leiden, who will talk about: Christian Art in the Medieval Middle East. A Challenge to the Interpretation of Cypriot Art.

Short Bio:
Mat Immerzeel is an art historian and archaeologist with Leiden University, The Netherlands. He specializes in the Christian material culture of the Middle East and, in particular, in the art of Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria from the medieval to the Ottoman period. He has been involved in the documentation and restoration of wall-paintings and icons, and presently participates in the project aiming at the documentation of the murals of the church of the Transfiguration at Sotira (Famagusta District) undertaken by the University of Cyprus and funded by the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation. Immerzeel heads the Paul van Moorsel Centre for Christian Art and Culture in the Middle East (VU University Amsterdam) and is the editor-in-chief of the scholarly journal Eastern Christian Art.
